Unfortunately, manufacturing procedures, padding and types of support can all alter the size.
IMPORTANT: This guide offers the most common sizes. It is important to know that there are no legal standard mattress dimensions. As a result, if you are looking for a specific bed size in Canada or the USA, be sure to ask your vendor for exact measurements if you are unclear.
In Canada and the USA, we use terms like Queen, King, Double and so on to define mattress sizes. In other places, like various European countries, the language can be different, and the same name could apply to a very different size. So be on the lookout if your set isn't from North America!

Foam Mattress Sizes
Foam mattresses are cut from slabs of foam, so their sizes don't vary as much. As a result, you don’t have to worry about size variations with foam mattresses. They are the exact size they state on the label and description.

Coil Inner-Spring Mattress Size Charts

The sizes between coil and foam mattresses vary a bit, but there's a very good reason! Innerspring coil mattresses are much harder and don't squish around as foam mattresses do. As a result, and to make it easier to fit into frames and tuck sheets under them, they're often just a touch smaller. This difference won't be noticeable in your bed frame, so don't worry!
The stiffer nature of the innerspring coil does have to be accounted for, but the manufacturers do that for you.

Despite ‘Twin’ being in the name, twin-sized mattresses are intended to be used by one person.

This makes it the perfect size mattress for a young child who has grown past the need for a toddler mattress. Twin mattresses are also great for those in adolescence or single adults. Due to its smaller size width and length, it is common in dorm rooms and spaces where more than one mattress is in place. Their small size means they’ll fit well in most spaces. It’s a great size for growing kids to give them enough space to sleep and grow without taking up so much space in their room. - Most people will not have this size through their entire adult life so an upgrade to a larger size will eventually be made. Super Single Bed Size / Three-quarters (3/4) Bed Size

Super Single beds are a throwback to the 1920s. Designed for one sleeper but often accommodating two, these beds are very rare on the market today. For the most part, only antique bed frames and military living quarters will require this size, so Gotta Sleep doesn’t carry it. You'll like have to find a custom or specialty mattress store to get a mattress this size that is both comfortable and new.

Full Size Bed Size

The double, or the full, used to be the industry standard for a bed meant for two people. It wasn’t until the 1950's that the Queen-sized mattress overtook the market, as ad campaigns didn't want to depict couples getting too close, and the space was quite appealing.

The full size bed size and dimensions are perfect for pre-teens and children. This size fits one individual with a height of less than 65 inches. It’s rarely found outside of these mobile homes, as the name would imply it was a size invented with nothing but RVs in mind. We don't carry the size here at Gotta Sleep, and in fact, most companies don't. You'll have to find a company specializing in them to get the right size, but wherever you got the trailer will tell you exactly where to go.

The California King’s luxurious size means you might not have space for end tables or dressers in some bedrooms. For those with space, the sprawling space may be worth it. We suggest some drawers under the bed for convenience, there's room!
