  • Innerspring. Innerspring mattresses give a supportive and bouncy feel. They prevent the sinking feel and allow sleepers to float. They are relatively cheap but don’t really have a long lifespan. Innersprings don’t sleep hot but can give a noisy sound because of the squeaky metal components.
  • Latex. Latex mattresses are great for their natural origin. It provides excellent support; good conforming and it is responsive. Latex mattress is noiseless, sleeps cool, and great at motion isolation. However, latex mattresses tend to be on the high price and also offer an average edge support.
  • Hybrid. The hybrid mattress is a combination of the other mattress types, (sometimes just two, sometimes all three). Though hybrid mattresses are quite expensive, there is a perfect mattress for almost everyone.

5 Major Factors to Consider before Choosing a Mattress

Now that you know about the best mattresses made in Canada, let us examine the major factors to consider before you choose a mattress.

1. Size:

Choosing a size of mattress depends on the amount of space you have in your room, the number of sleep companions (kids and pets) and your preferences. The basic sizes of mattress include twin, full, double, queen, king and California king size.

Therefore, before you make the decision on which size of mattress to buy, consider the amount of space that would be available in the room after you include the mattress and other furniture.

The number of sleeping companions you have and your preference for larger beds should form your buying decision.

2. Comfort Level/Firmness

Mattresses are available in different levels of firmness which determines the level of comfort you get. Ranging from firm to soft, choice of mattress firmness is based on your sleeping position, weight and preference.

For instance, firmness preference for a stomach sleeper would be quite different from that of a side sleeper. In the same manner, what a sleeper in the lightweight range will consider too firm may be soft for a sleeper in the heavyweight range.

3. Temperature

Do you wake amidst sleep due to heat? If you naturally heat up during sleep, it is best to choose a mattress with an excellent temperature neutrality and sleep cool.

While most mattresses might make you warmer all through the night, specific mattresses with cooling features help to regulate the temperature and ensure you have a quality sleep.

4. Pain

If you experience pain at pressure points, such as the hips, the shoulder, lower back, etc, you need to choose a mattress that would offer pressure points relief.

For example, if you have lower back pain, you may need a firmer mattress to help keep your back aligned. It is therefore better you identify any pain you have before going to buy a mattress.  Knowing the pressure points and areas where you feel pain will help you choose a mattress that will alleviate these pains and improve your sleep.

5. Budget

No one launches into the sea without proper preparation. Though coming last, this is a very vital factor to be considered before you choose a mattress. You won't want to buy a mattress with all the bucks you saved.

Therefore, it is important to make out your budget and find a mattress that can offer value for your money. There are mattresses that fall within the low-price points and over a great value for their amount.

Mattress In A Box Canada: Latest Mattress Trends

With the advent of electronic marketing, you can purchase anything and everything you want with just a few taps on your phone screen or a few clicks on your mouse, and it gets delivered right to your door.

However, mattresses have joined the train a few years back. And this saves you the time and stress of going to purchase a mattress.

What is a Bed in a Box Mattress?

A bed in a box mattress (also called mattress in a box) is a bed compressed, rolled up into a box and shipped to the customer. Bed in a box is a new way of buying mattresses and most bed in a box are only sold online.

So, instead of you going to a brick and mortar store to buy a mattress, all you have to do is to choose the mattress you want online and it gets delivered to you.

Bed in a box is more convenient for both customers and mattress companies, and they also have a low price point. They also come with extended sleep trials and convenient pickup if the customer doesn’t like the bed.

Is a mattress in a box good?

Many beds in a box do perform well, irrespective of the way you sleep, your height or body weight.

Most mattress in a box are usually made up of advanced memory foam and other materials while others include innerspring, adjustable air mattresses, hybrid and latex.

Since bed in a box mattress is sold directly to the customer, online mattress brands can produce beds of higher quality for a lower cost.

How long does bed in a box mattress last?

A bed in a box can last as long as traditional mattresses. A bed in a box lasts between 7 to 9 years while traditional mattresses last from 5 years up to 15 years.

However, just like traditional mattresses, how long a bed in a box last depends on the use and maintenance culture it is subjected to.

The materials used in the production of the mattress determines the quality and durability. However, the manner of use and some other factors affect how long a mattress lasts.

3 Factors that affect the lifespan of a mattress include:
  1. Weight of the user: More compression would be created when a sleeper in the plus-size / heavyweight range press against the mattress compared to a sleeper in the lightweight range. Body weight of the sleeper has an effect on the mattress lifespan.
  2. Usage/Activity:  If kids run and jump on the mattress, it can damage it. Likewise, spillage of foods or drinks will weaken and lead to damage of the mattress materials. However, if sleeping is the only activity, the mattress would have a longer lifespan.
  3. Maintenance Culture: Regular cleaning and maintenance of the mattress would help keep it in a good shape and condition. Keeping the mattress clean will prevent growth of bacteria and mold which could damage the mattress materials.

Can you sleep on a mattress in a box right away?

You should allow the mattress to fully decompress before use, usually between 24 to 48 hours. Most bed in a box today, depending on the brands, have a shorter resting period and decompress faster.

Ways to Clean Your Bed in a Box

  1. Use a vacuum to remove any dirt on the surface.
  2. Use a natural organic cleanser or a mild soap and water to remove stains. Avoid using harsh commercial chemicals to prevent mattress damage.
  3. Spray water-vinegar solution on problem area and scrub it gently in a circular motion to remove odor.
  4. Use a blow dryer or dry the mattress in the sun in case of wet areas.  Mattress damage can occur if hot air is idle at a spot.

What to Look for in a Bed in a Box Mattress

Before you purchase any of the most popular bed in a box mattress brands, make sure you select the right one. Some tips to consider before you decide includes; mattress type, body weight, sleeping position, sleep trials, return policies, and warranties.

Mattress Type

The mattress comes in various types and each mattress type has its own benefits and downsides. Common mattress types include memory foam, latex, innerspring and hybrid.

  • Memory Foam: This is one of the most popular mattress types. Memory foam has pressure relieving, conforming, and excellent motion isolation features. However, memory foam retains heat and this makes it not suitable for hot sleepers.
  • Latex Mattress: Latex mattress is cooler and gives a responsive bounce, unlike the memory foam. Latex mattresses are available in the synthetic and natural form. Latex mattresses are expensive when compared to other mattress types.
  • Innerspring Mattress: This mattress type has a bouncy surface and provides an exceptional cooling layer. The mattress produces some noise due to the metal parts used in the construction. Innerspring mattresses also have less motion isolation features and little or no pressure relief.
  • Hybrid Mattress: Hybrid mattress is produced as a result of combining memory foam and innerspring. Hybrid mattress provides the benefits of both memory foam and innerspring.

Body Weight:

Your body weight influences your choice of mattress. The mattress a sleeper in the heavyweight range considers soft may be too firm for a lightweight sleeper.

Choosing a mattress based on your body weight will ensure a comfortable and quality sleep. Bodyweight is divided into three groups which include; lightweight, average weight, and heavyweight, or plus-size.

  • Lightweight: Sleepers weigh less than 130 pounds. A soft or plush mattress is ideal.
  • Average-weight: Sleepers weigh between 130 pounds and 230 pounds. A medium-firm mattress is ideal.
  • Heavyweight: Sleepers weigh more than 230 pounds. A firm mattress is ideal.

Sleeping Position

When looking to choose a new mattress, keep your sleeping position in mind. Each sleeping position requires different preferences in terms of comfort and support. Sleeping positions include side sleeping, back sleeping, stomach sleeping, combination sleeping.

  • Side sleeping: Sleepers sleep on their sides and this allows for better breathing. It is the most common sleeping position. A soft to medium-firm mattress is ideal for a side sleeper.
  • Back sleeping: Sleepers sleep on their back and this allows for spine alignment. A medium-firm to firm mattress is ideal for back sleepers.
  • Stomach sleeping: This is the least common sleep position. Sleepers sleep on their stomach and this could cause pressure on the spine. A medium-firm to firm mattress is ideal for stomach sleepers.
  • Combination sleeping: Sleepers in this range switch between 2 to 3 sleep positions through the night. A mattress that maintains spinal alignment and provides comfort and support is ideal for combination sleepers. Usually, combination sleepers select medium-firm mattresses.

Sleep Trial

Sleep trial is a home trial period whereby the customer tries out a new mattress within the specified period. Most sleep trials range from 90 to 120 nights. Most mattress companies will pick up the mattress in case the customer doesn't like it and donate to charity before issuing a full refund.

Return Policy

More like a substitute to sleep trial, a return policy allows a customer to return the mattress for a full refund. Return policies last about 30 days which allow the customer to adjust to the new mattress. Read the policy as some companies only accept returns if the mattress box is unopened.

Warranty

A warranty covers any manufacturing defects which could cause damage to the bed. Most mattresses come with a standard 10-year warranty while some provide longer. Note that a warranty cannot be transferred to another reason as it applies to the original purchaser only.

  • Layers

  • Firmness and feel
  • Edge support
  • Motion isolation
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Bounce
  • Comfort
  • Durability

  1. Layers

Casper Mattress Layer

The Casper mattress is an all-foam mattress. The mattress has four (4) layers of foam which include a core support foam, a zoned support foam, a memory foam, and it is topped with open-cell foam. The mattress has a 12 inches profile which is a blend of memory foam, polyfoam, and proprietary foam.

  • The first layer of the Casper mattress is made up of 5 inches of open-cell proprietary comfort foam, which is of 3.3 PCF density. The first layer is designed to provide comfort and function in heat regulation. This layer also gives the mattress a friendly-bounce and breathability to keep the mattress surface from overheating.

  • The second layer of the Casper mattress is 5 inches of responsive high-density memory foam, which has a 4.0 PCF density. In synergy with the above layer, this layer functions in providing support and offer pressure points relief. It also helps the mattress to conform to your body shape and as well helps the mattress to retain its shape. The second layer as well gives the mattress a great motion isolation feature.

  • The third layer of the Casper mattress is 2 inches of zoned polyurethane support foam, which has a 5 PCF density. This layer is zoned, which means it offers varying firmness levels in the hip region and the shoulder area. This layer is firmer at the center where the hips are positioned, but softer around the shoulder and knees region. The layer also serves as a transition layer between the two comfort layers above it and the core support layer. It also functions in spine alignment as it ensures the spine is neutrally aligned.

  • The fourth later of the Casper mattress is 7 inches of dense support foam. This layer provides the mattress with its structure and prevents the quicksand feeling attributed to the mattress sinking too far. This layer is made up of high-density foam. This layer lends the mattress its durability and it creates the overall foundation for the mattress.

Endy Mattress

Endy Mattress Layers

The Endy mattress is an all-foam mattress. The mattress is made up of three layers which include 5 inches polyurethane foam, 3 inches polyurethane foam, and comfort foam. The Endy mattress, therefore, is profiled with a height of 10 inches.

  • The first layer of the Endy mattress is 2 inches of comfort foam. This layer is designed to provide comfort and temperature regulation. It is also designed to respond to the body's movement and shape. It has a 3 PCF density. The layer provides pressure relief and maintains temperature neutrality.

  • The second layer of the Endy mattress is 3 inches of high-density polyurethane translational foam. With the above comfort layer, this layer helps the mattress to conform to the body as well as provide additional support. This layer prevents sleepers from experiencing discomfort from the firmer support layer below.

  • The third layer of the Endy mattress is 5 inches of high-density polyurethane support foam. The function of this layer is to give the mattress its structure and prevents sinking deep of sleepers into the mattress. It also promotes neutral spine alignment.

The Casper mattress cover is made of simple two tones.  A heavy-duty charcoal-colored speckled fabric is used in the design of the side fabric of the cover. The Casper mattress cover is designed from a soft polyester blend. It is removable with the help of a fixed zipper. The Casper mattress cover sets the trend for the “less-is-more” mattress aesthetic.

Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress cover is made up of two tones. The top part is a white with a diamond-knit pattern which is made from quilted polyester and it has a bit of Lycra in it for stretch. While the bottom part of the cover is made of a heavier duty grey fabric. The Endy mattress cover is soft and it also allows for easy airflow passage due to it being breathable. It is also removable and machine washable. The polyester used in the making of the Endy mattress cover adds to the durability of the mattress.

  1. Firmness and Feel

Casper Mattress

The Casper mattress firmness falls within the medium-firm settings. On a scale of 1 to 10, the mattress firmness setting is rated 7. The Casper mattress is a bit more firm than the Endy mattress, but not too firm. On a technical scale, they both fall into the medium-firm firmness settings.

This means that for most people who love to enjoy a little bit of firmness from their mattress, Casper mattress is ideal. Casper mattress allows for a little bit of sinking and this adds to the durability of the mattress.

Casper mattresses are suitable for both stomach and back sleepers. The firmness of the mattress will prevent stomach sleepers and back sleepers to sink into the mattress. Side sleepers may face a bit of difficulty sleeping on the mattress as pressure and pain may build up on the hips and or shoulders.

Endy Mattress

Endy mattress has an average firmness rating of 6 a scale of 1 to 10. The Endy mattress doesn’t do well among the firmest mattresses on the market. Endy mattress firmness falls within the medium-firm firmness settings.

Despite the lack of the firmness of the Endy mattress, the mattress makes up for all it lacks in its softness. Endy mattresses have a cozy and very soft feel to them. They give a significant hug. The Endy mattresses are very nice for sleepers that fall within the lightweight and semi-lightweight range.

Stomach sleepers may not find the Endy mattress suitable. Pressure and pain can develop from the hips due to it sinking fairly easily into the mattress. This may cause back pain and may also lead to the spine being improperly aligned after long use. The mattress design and construct make the Endy mattress excellent for back sleepers. Side sleepers may need some time to get used to the mattress before finding it comfortable and supportive.

  1. Edge Support

Edge support has to do with the level of supportiveness that is provided along the edges of the mattress. One of the issues sleepers face in foam mattresses is that they are not known for better edge support. Both Casper mattress and Endy mattress have a below-average edge support rating.

Casper Mattress

The Casper mattress offers good edge support, but users may feel some level of contouring along the edges of the mattress. On a scale of 1 to 10, Casper mattress has an average edge support rating of 3.4.

Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress can be described to have a good edge support level despite it being an all-foam mattress. An edge support rating for the Casper mattress falls at 3 out of a 1 to 10 scale.

  1. Motion Isolation

Motion isolation is a good feature in foam mattresses. It makes one of the reasons why couples make a switch to memory foam.  Both Casper mattress and Endy mattress have an above-average motion isolation ratings.

Casper mattress

The base layer in the Casper mattress works well to trap vibrations which are caused by the sleeper's movement. This prevents the vibrations from traveling across the bed, which could wake a sleeping partner.  On a scale of 1 to 10, the Casper mattress has a motion isolation rating of 6.4.

Endy Mattress

Foams inside the Endy mattress absorb vibrations and movements so as to reduce the disturbance of sleeping partners. Only the middle layer offers bounce, which makes minimal and most normal movements go unnoticed. Endy mattress is suitable for co-sleepers. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Endy mattress has a motion isolation rating of 6.5.

  1. Bounce

Foam mattresses often have very low bounce rating because of the above-average motion isolation.

Casper Mattress

On a scale of  1 to 10, Casper mattress has a bounce rating of  4.7. The mattress produces a minimal bounce  and it reshapes easily when compared to latex beds.

Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress has an average bounce. On a scale of 1 to 10, the mattress is rated to have a bounce of 5.  The mattress has a minimal bounce in the upper layer. Once the middle material becomes activated, a deeper bounce is felt. The foam also reshapes easily.

  1. Environmental Sustainability

    1. Comfort

There is no perfect mattress out there on the market. You can only find the perfect mattress for you that would suit your sleeping preferences. You either love a mattress or hate it.

    Casper Mattress

With the firmness setting associated with Casper mattress, it provides great support that is lacking in many all-foam mattress counterparts. The Casper mattress is suitable for providing adequate back support and the mattress does not allow sleepers to sink into the foam.

Casper mattress provides a great motion control which serves as a key benefit of the mattress. The Casper mattress has evolved into one of the best mattresses on the market.

    Endy Mattress

The Endy mattress might just be the right mattress for you if you are a hot sleeper. The Endy mattress provides excellent support and provides a well-balanced weight distribution. Among all-foam mattresses, the Endy mattress has one of the best edge support. The construction of the mattress greatly reduces motion transfer which means less disturbance due to sleeping partner movement. The Endy mattress also provides pressure-point relief.

    1. Durability

The durability of a mattress is important to be considered by shoppers that are conscious of the budget. All sleepers want a highly durable mattress. It is not always easy to find a durable mattress due to the fact that mattress brands are aiming for a higher profit.

    Casper Mattress

Based on customer reviews, the Casper mattress will provide a good level of durability and should last over 5 years for most users. Sleepers that fall within the heavyweight range might notice a quick degrade in their mattress than lightweight sleepers.  Compared to Endy mattress, Endy mattress would be a better compromise between the high price of the Casper mattress and its durability.

    Endy Mattress

Heavyweight sleepers may find Endy mattress less durable due to the weight pull that may lead to quick degrade of the mattress. However, an Endy mattress should last longer for sleepers that fall within the lightweight range. Due to the low price point, when compared to the Casper mattress, Endy mattress is a better pick in terms of durability.

    Unboxing the Mattress

Both Casper and Endy mattress delivery boxes have a heavy-duty plastic within the boxes which function in protecting the mattresses during shipping. Customers will need to use scissors or a knife in opening the mattress boxes. Heavy-duty tapes are used to seal both mattresses.

The compressed mattress is easy to remove from the box once it is opened. Casper and Endy's mattresses are protected in the box to maintain its compressed seal.  Multiple layers of heavy-duty inner layers are used to ensure the mattress remains compressed in a vacuum seal. The exterior layers are made to maintain the right cylinder shape throughout the shipping period. In order to change the mattress from a cylindrical shape to a flat compressed form, you have to unwrap the outer plastic layer.

It is advice able at this stage to place the mattresses into the designated bed frame while still rolled up. The mattress will rest unrolled after the rest of the outer layer has been removed.

After this, cut and remove the final layer of plastic. The vacuum seal now is broken, the mattress seal will begin to decompress. A bed-in-a-box should expand to its full height within minutes to a few days. Both the Endy and Casper mattress expand to their full height within 3 minutes.

    Conclusion:

Both the Endy and Casper mattress is a different kind of beast in the mattress world. They are both popular mattresses that have put a lot of effort into marketing their brands in Canada and the United States. The primary goal of one of these brands is comfort, while the other focuses on both durability and comfort. Both mattresses are known for having a soft feel with a considerable level of hugging. The soft feel and the little level of hugging provided by these mattresses make it a perfect option for some sleepers, while others, who prefer a firmer mattress, may want to look elsewhere.  The Casper and Endy mattresses have differences that are apparent, but both feel like the two sides of a coin.

One of the mattresses is available primarily in Canada while the other is available in the whole of the west.  Endy and Casper mattress should not be considered as just an end purchase, but a starting point in the search of better sleep. Based on our rating, both mattresses perform similarly overall. If you need a mattress that has both the Endy and Casper's Good qualities and more, check out the OMG Mattress.

Below are some reviews of the Endy mattress made by verified customers.

    Sleep Position: On my back

    Worth all the hubbub

Definitely lives up to the hype. I was initially told by a friend and a couple of my family members about how good Endy mattresses were, but I had to do my own research of course. After comparing Endy with other leading online mattress companies, and weighing the pros and cons of each with my fiance we’ve decided on Endy. It was great getting our mattress within two days of ordering, and watching the bed inflate once opened. Honestly, it took a few nights for my body to adjust to a new mattress, but now that we’ve slept on it for a week I’m definitely very happy with this purchase. We’ve been sleeping through the night and never wake up with aches or stiff joints.

    Thank you, Endy!

Ultimate King Size Bed Dimensions Guide [2020]

    King Size Bed

Constantly being disturbed by your sleeping partner while in bed? Do they steal the sheets or hog space? Changed your sleeping style and preferences just to accommodate your partner? Or you now sleep by the edge of the mattress to make your partner comfortable?

Partner disturbance has been one of the common reasons for poor night sleep. From the snoring, tossing, turning and stealing of the sheets to hogging of spaces, which leads to sleep interference. These issues can be attributed to small bed sizes shared by couples. Many couples make the mistake of buying a mattress that is too small for them. Opting for a larger mattress, such as the King size mattress, is a way of solving these issues.  To test if a mattress size is too small for you and your sleeping partner, you should be able to lie next to your partner, with your hands behind your head and your elbow out, without it touching that of your partner.

    King Size Bed Dimensions

King size mattresses are not of the same dimensions across different countries. There is a variation among the dimension from country to country. Below are varying dimensions of a King size mattress based on selected country differences:

    • UK: 180 cm x 200 cm (Super King)
    • USA: 193cm x 203.5 cm (King)
    • Australia: 183 cm x 203 cm (King)
    • New Zealand: 183 cm x 203 cm (Super King)
    • Continental Europe: 180 cm x 200 cm (Super King)
    • Scandinavia: 180 cm x 200 cm (Swedish Double)
    • Japan: 170 cm x 195 cm (King)
    • China: 182 cm x 212 cm (King)
    • Thailand: 183 cm x 198 cm (King)
    • Singapore: 183 cm x 191 cm (King)
    • Brazil: 193 cm x 203 cm (King)
    • South Africa: 183 cm x 188 cm (King)

King size beds, also known as Eastern King beds, are the widest of all bed types. They are ideal for master bedrooms or for individuals that love extra space to move. Standard King size has an overall length of 80 inches (203.5cm) and a width of 76 inches (193 cm). The mattress can comfortably sleep two adults with sleeping companions, such as children or pets without giving a squeezing feeling.

Is a King Size Mattress Suitable for you?

A King size mattress is ideal for larger bedrooms as it fills and balances out space. Due to its ample size, a King mattress is also ideal for adults with multiple pets and or children with whom they share the mattress. With a King size mattress, you don’t have about discomfort when your child/children decide to share the bed with you

    King Size Sleeping Area

The King size mattress offers a total sleeping area of 42 square feet. This amounts to a 76 inches sleeping space for a single sleeper, which is enough to toss and turn for active single sleepers and lovers of large mattresses. For couples, the King size mattress provides a sleeping space of 38 inches per partner. Two Twin size mattresses combined together offer the same sleeping area as a King size mattress.

King Size Mattress VS California King Size Mattress

Aside from the differences in the length of a California King mattress and a King mattress, below are some other comparisons of their features.

    King vs california king

    • Dimension: The King size mattress has a dimension of 76 inches in width and 80 inches in length (193cm by 203.5cm), while the California King size has a dimension of 72 inches in width and 84 inches in length (183cm by 203.5cm). The California King is 4 inches narrower than the King size and also 4 inches longer. In terms of sleepers height, the California King size is preferable as it is more preferable for taller sleepers due to the extra length. However, before deciding on which to go for, you have to consider your bedroom layout and size.

    • Sleeping Area: There is no much difference in the total sleeping area offered by the two mattresses. The California King mattress, also known as the Western King has a total sleeping area of 6,048 square inches (41.9 square feet) while the standard King size mattress, also known as the Eastern King has a total sleeping area of 6,080 square inches (42.2 square feet).

The King mattress offers a sleeping space of 38 inches per individual sleeper for couples while the California king offers a sleeping space of 36 inches for individual sleepers. But for taller sleepers, the California mattress offers an extra 4 inches to accommodate them, and it’s more suitable for sleepers that love the extra length.

    • Ease of movement: The King and the California King mattress are virtually of the same bulkiness and weight.
    • Bedroom dimension: Both the California King and the King size mattress would fit in ideally into a large bedroom, though, the California mattress is longer in length than the King size mattress.
    • Cost: There isn’t much of a price difference between the California King mattress and the King size mattress. But in terms of getting the bed accessories, California King mattress accessories are scare and expensive than that of a King size mattress.

    • Dimension: The Queen size mattress has a dimension of 60 inches in width and 80 inches in length (152.5cm by 203.5cm) while the King size mattress has a dimension of 76 inches in width and 80 inches in length (193cm and 203.5cm). When compared to the King size mattress, the Queen size mattress is 16 inches narrower than the King size mattress but has the same length as the King mattress. However, if you have a smaller master bedroom, a Queen mattress is likely a better choice.

    • Sleeping Area: The Queen size mattress offers a total sleeping area of 33 square feet while the King size mattress offers a total sleeping area of 42 square feet. This amounts to 30 inches sleeping space per sleeper on a Queen size mattress and 38 inches sleeping space per sleeper on a King size mattress.

    • Cost: The price of a Queen bed is more affordable when compared to that of a King size mattress. Bed accessories are easier to find and as well cheaper for a Queen mattress than that of a King size mattress. Also, there is a huge variety of Queen size mattresses at lower prices.

    • Bedroom dimension: The King size mattress takes up much space than the Queen size mattress. It is suitable for larger bedrooms with a dimension of 12 feet by 12 feet. The Queen size mattress can fit smaller bedrooms or guest rooms.

    • Ease of movement: When it comes to a King size bed and a Queen size bed, the King is harder to move. Due to the extra space it offers, it is bigger and bulkier than the Queen size as it is not just what one small person can handle.

Benefits of a King size Bed

The King size mattress offers several health benefits asides comfortability and support. Many people suffer from sleeping disorders just because they have trouble having a comfortable night rest due to disturbances from their sleeping partners. With its increased sleeping area, the King size mattress provides a comfortable sleep through the night.  Below are some benefits of a King size bed:

    • Extra comfort: The extra spaces in width and length offered by the King mattress offers more comfort to the sleepers. They create more room for the sleeper to stretch the legs and arms and take up any sleeping position they want. The large sleeping space gives an active sleeper more opportunity to express their sleeping style. On a small mattress, this is not possible due to the smaller sleeping area.

    • Less disturbance: Some health conditions, such as joint injuries, may require a sleeper to be restless and keep changing sleep position all night. This might lead to disturbance of their partner which may make the night a nightmare. But on a large mattress like the King size mattress, the large sleeping area offered by the mattress would lessen the disturbance as each part we as enough sleeping place. Therefore, with a large mattress no more accidental waking of partners.

    • No restless leg: The large dimension of the mattress allow the sleeper to fully stretch out and this relieves pressure on the ankles and Achilles tendon.

    • Better blood flow: Do you wake up with uncomfortable pins and needles? With the large sleeping space offered by the King mattress, you will be able to stretch out comfortably, thereby lowering the risk of waking up with uncomfortable pins and needles.

    • Less tossing and turning: The larger the mattress, the less you feel your partner's motion during the night. A King size bed will solve the issues attributed to not having enough space to get a comfortable sleep, such as the tossing and turning and night waking.

    • Easier breathing: Your respiratory system can get compressed when you sleep pressed up against your partner without enough space. But with a King size mattress, you don’t have to worry about this.

    • Right sleeping positions: Have you change from a back sleeper to a side sleeper just to accommodate your partner in bed? With the extra sleeping space on a King size mattress, you can focus your sleeping habits on reducing pains, soreness, and joint tension that may arise from squeezing in the mattress. Maintaining the right sleep position will also relieve pains from pressure points.

    • Large family: If you have a large family or sleeping companions, you don’t need to worry, the King size mattress is large enough to accommodate everyone without the squeeze feeling.

    • Firmness difference: With the option of a Split King mattress, you don’t have to try to confirm your partner's firmness preference. A Split King mattress allows couples or sleeping partners to enjoy their individual firmness preference while still on the same mattress with their partner.

History of the King Size Bed

As early as the 1940s, Americans were sleeping on either a Twin bed or a full-size mattress. The King size mattress has not been the most popular mattress for couples. The mattress industries promoted the buying of Two twin mattresses to be combined together, also called the Split King, but the idea didn’t hold. Around 1945, mattress companies introduced larger mattress sizes now known as the King and Queen sizes.

The California King mattress was the major player in the market. It was originally designed for celebrities of the West coast. Several years later, the Eastern King mattress, which is known today as the standard King size mattress, was made. Americans shifted to larger mattresses during the 1950s, which led to a surge in the popularity of larger mattresses. This was due to Americans getting bigger over time. The percentage of taller Americans was on the increase during this period, which requires that their comfort be met by them going for larger mattresses.

Also, the booming economy in the post-World War II made so many Americans venture into buying big houses in the suburbs which they love to fill with big furniture. King size bedding accounted for just one percent of the total sales of beddings in America in 1953. But by 1962, the sales rose up to 10 percent of the total bedding sales across the country.
